Planning and Development
Association volunteers attend Council planning committee meetings to monitor and provide input on development proposals throughout Lake of Bays Township.  Their mandate is to alert the association to potential threats to the lake and surrounding area, to ensure that the integrity of the Official Plan is respected and to protect the natural functions of the vegetation on the lake edge.

The Environment
The lake-wide water testing program allows for close monitoring of chemical and physical indicators, such as temperature, clarity, total coliforms, e. coli and phosphorus. We are also sampling lake bottom sediment to expand our understanding of the properties of our lake water. The association also focuses on the larger issue of watershed health, such as: degraded shorelines, storm water runoff, poor forest health and improper waste management.

External Affairs and Finance
The Lake of Bays Association represents members’ interests in the communities surrounding the lake: the Township of Lake of Bays, the District of Muskoka, the Huntsville Lakes Council and through the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’Association (FOCA). Experienced volunteers monitor the budget processes of municipal and regional governments to ensure our tax dollars are spent appropriately. We have raised the issue of fair taxation at every level of government to improve accountability for your property taxes.

Recreation and Safety
The Recreation and Safety committee deals with boating enjoyment and safety. We address issues such as small vessel regulations, the Personal Watercraft Act, the Pleasure Craft Operators Cards, channel markers, all terrain vehicles, speeding boats, noisy boats and excessive boat traffic. Volunteers also run boating safety courses and the Silent Boat Rally for canoes, kayaks and electric boats.

Area Stewards
Our volunteer area stewards are our public relations representatives visiting residents door-to-door during the peak summer months. Area stewards provide a neighbourly link between the association and the population it serves.

All of these programs need your support.  Become a member and get involved!
